A gaiwan, or lidded bowl with a saucer, is one of the original methods of brewing tea that was popularized during the Ming Dynasty . Its best used with the gongfu cha method of tea brewing. It is an elegant method of brewing and drinking tea that takes a little practice, but once mastered yields great control over the brewing result.
